Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Mr. VelenkosiniHlabisa, led a groundbreaking Back to School Campaign on Thursday, 31 July 2025, inNtambanana Village under uMhlathuze Local Municipality. Held in the spirit of NelsonMandela Month, the initiative was a collaborative effort between the MunicipalInfrastructure Support Agent (MISA) and the Richards Bay Industrial Development Zone(RBIDZ). The campaign reached more than 600 Grade 12 learners during this pivotalphase of their academic journey.Addressing the learners, Minister Hlabisa delivered a moving keynote, reminding themthat education is the greatest equalizer and a gateway to a better future. He urged themto make the most of the remaining months of their school careers, emphasizing thatdetermination and discipline can turn even unimaginable dreams into achievable goals.Speaking at the engagement, MISA CEO Ms. Kgomo highlighted the importance ofcross-sector partnerships like the one with RBIDZ in reaching and empowering youth.She showcased the range of opportunities offered by MISA, including technicalbursaries, experiential learning, apprenticeship programmes, and work-integratedlearning. These initiatives are tailored to develop a skilled pipeline for the localgovernment sector.Ms. Kgomo also encouraged learners to remain focused, reminding them that educationis not only a personal benefit, but a way to uplift entire communities and contributemeaningfully to South Africa’s development.The event created a rare and valuable space for learners to interact directly withleadership asking questions, exploring career paths, and receiving guidance.This collaboration between MISA and RBIDZ reflects a firm commitment to youthdevelopment and skills empowerment through tangible, impactful action.
