MEDIA ADVISORY
23 JULY 2019
The Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), Mr Parks Tau will attend the SALGA-SACN report launch seminar – “Rethinking economic development in intermediate cities”.
The project was conducted in partnership with SALGA, and with research support by the University of Free State. The report is the latest volume in the South African Cities Network’s (SACN) series of five exploratory studies on differentiated approaches to governance focusing on intermediate cities.
This fifth study addressed how intermediate cities have an important role to play in regional and rural development, and contribute to the national economy. This research explored local economic development (LED) within intermediate cities, using a combination of desktop research, participatory action research (to garner the views and experience of municipal practitioners), and case studies on Mangaung, Rustenburg and Sol Plaatje.
Deputy Minister will also respond to the preceding dialogue and exchange from a governmental perspective; making the connections back to the Integrated Urban Development Framework and the New Urban Agenda.
Members of the media are invited to attend as follows:
- Date: 26 July 2019
- Time: 08:00
- Venue: Mike, 16th Floor: Joburg Metro Building – 158, Boulevard, Bramfontein
